Contract Part-time Interim Controller for REIT/Property Management Company

Job Description

Part-time Interim Controller with real estate industry experience is needed to support our small real estate investment and property management client in Santa Monica, CA for 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • The Interim Controller will be responsible for financial reporting including corporate accounting policies and external audit oversight
  • Lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements with multiple levels of consolidation, internal reporting and external reporting to financial institutions
  • Prepare and record closing entries for asset acquisitions and financing
  • Supervise invoice processing, calculation of fees, allocation of costs on behalf of multiple entities and equity investor cash calls/distributions
  • Provide management with accurate and timely information necessary to make strategic and operating decisions
  • Evaluate existing and new  accounting rules and recommend appropriate actions and/or procedures
  • Perform monthly and quarterly covenant calculation and report to bank
  • Oversee and direct all monthly, quarterly and year-end closings including the year-end audit
  • Primary interface with all external auditors

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA highly desirable
  • Experience; 10 plus years of progressive work experience, 5-7years of Real Estate Industry experience
  • Experience with investment reporting and creating monthly investment packages required
  • Must be well-versed in Fund Accounting, including joint ventures and  equity distribution
  • REIT structure understanding required
  • Must have experience with project management and tenant improvements
  • Experience with lease contracts required
  • Revenue recognition experience regarding property and construction management required
  • Proficiency in Yardi required
