Full-Time Real Estate Controller

Our firm is looking for a controller level consultant with real estate industry experience to support our growing clientele.

Responsibilities

  • The Controller will be responsible for financial reporting including corporate accounting policies and external audit oversight
  • Lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements with multiple levels of consolidation, internal reporting and external reporting to financial institutions
  • Prepare and record closing entries for asset acquisitions and financing
  • Responsible for debt compliance including the analysis of loan documents to ensure that the reporting and compliance requirements are met
  • Supervise invoice processing, calculation of fees, allocation of costs on behalf of multiple entities and equity investor cash calls/distributions
  • Build systems and processes that will streamline financial reporting and enforce compliance among the company’s divisions 
  • Oversee the activities of the department, with direct reports including Accounting, Treasury, and Accounts Receivable 
  • Provide various levels of management with accurate and timely information necessary to make strategic and operating decisions
  • Evaluate existing and new accounting rules and recommend appropriate actions and/or procedures
  • Perform monthly and quarterly covenant calculation and report to bank
  • Oversee and direct all monthly, quarterly and year-end closings including the year-end audit
  • Primary interface with all external auditors

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • 4-year degree in accounting or finance required
  • CPA required and MBA highly desirable
  • Experience; 10 plus years of progressive work experience, 3+ years Public Accounting firm (Big 4 highly preferred), 5-7 years of Real Estate Industry experience
  • Must be well-versed in Fund Accounting, including complex joint ventures and complex equity distribution
  • Revenue recognition experience regarding property and construction management required
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in J.D. Edwards, Yardi or MRI required
